Our Thursday lunch meetings are renowned for their interesting and informative speakers, but at the heart of our club is great fellowship.
Last weeks meeting may have been missing a guest speaker due to illness, and while attendance numbers were lower than usual, it was a meeting rich in fellowship. Our own talented members stepped up to tell us stories of recent interesting places they’d been and recount scary stories like swimming with a Tiger Snake, burning up your brake fluid in a car rally or ending up at the End of the World pub where you have to pay a toll to get to ‘the other side’ and stay there forever if you can’t pay the toll to get back!
Our Rotary experience is of course much more than the weekly lunch meeting. Much is being done behind the scenes by our members to initiate the Rotary Park upgrade as our Club centennial project, we have raised over $14,000 to pay for Orokonui Ecosanctuary’s special new threatened bird translocation aviary, and a new project that our younger members and friends are working towards, is to build a garden, orchard and outdoor space at the recently relocated Sarah Cohen school.
Our Rotary experience is of course much more than the weekly lunch meeting. There’s an inter club firewood project getting underway and we’ll be out in the community being of service to help eradicate wasps in the town belt Sun 5th and 11th March, as well as raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation on Sat 11th!
There’s also a lot going on behind the scenes to prepare for the club’s 100th anniversary in April.
All this and the regular meals on wheels service which never goes unforgotten or unacknowledged.
