Our social gathering on 16 Jan at the Dunedin Petanque Club, Eglington Road was a great success. Members of the Dunedin Petanque Club made us very welcome and showed us how to play friendly easy going matches where pairs competed against pairs. It was a 'mêlée' of fun.  Petanque was easy to learn, not too difficult to do but it is a skill to place and score! The two most successful new players on the night were Claire and Craig Radford, whether playing as a pair or individually, these sport loving people could consistently 'hold' their winning boule throughout the event! Petanque is played at the club from social to competititive levels, it's a popular game world wide, and the Dunedin club has a young player representing NZ at the world champs this year in Perth. He was one of our coaches!  The view from the playing courts overlooks the city and harbour. On a stunning summer evening, we couldn't have asked for a better way to restart our Rotary Year. Thanks to John Drummond, Bruce Cowan and the Dunedin Petanque Club for organising this event.
