Obituary: Ken Stott
Ken joined Rotary Dunedin in 1979, a time when The Savoy was home, when membership was near 150, of whom 100+ attended each weekly meeting. Ken held the classification, Insurance Broking and served diligently on several committees coming to the attention of the nomination committee in 1991 and thus was elected President Elect for 1992/93 and President for 1993/94. Later, Ken was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for services to Rotary and the Community
Outside family and Rotary Ken’s passion lay with Bowls, both the game and the administration of the game. A member of the Roslyn Club, he served on Dunedin Centre Committee for a number of years and held office as President NZ Bowling Association 1988/89. He retained a keen interest in Rugby holding a ground member’s ticket at Carisbrook for many years.
In later years Ken and wife Mary split their time between family here in the city and one in Australia. In December 2014 after 35 years Ken resigned his Rotary membership service when he and Mary moved to the Kapiti Coast to be close to family.
Ken passed away peacefully and will be remembered for his friendly welcoming smile and quiet engaging nature.
Our Club has already forwarded condolences to Mary and family but some members may wish to add a personal touch! Address:-  PO Box 723, Paraparaumu, 5354.

Rotaract Summer Bingo Progress
Several Club Members have reported donating items to a food bank, either during the local can drive or at a supermarket collection. To quote one individual " My family donated a bag of  non-perishable food items in last Monday’s community food drive. Pleased to do so annually and we hope it helps."

The Hospice trailer raffle organised by Rotary Dunedin South was a timely opportunity for our club members to take part in a charity collection or fundraiser, and seven of us did.

A packet of inexpensive Christmas Cards with "Seasons Greetings",  popped in letter boxes of immediate neighbours (many unknown personally) helped spread holiday cheer for one of our members - and three cards, plus a chat over the front fence, in return!.

Don't forget to let me know at brucec3210@gmail.com if you complete any of the challenge tasks, so that I can keep our club progress updated.

What do Rotarians Do? Go Tramping!
Since an initial Hollyford Valley tramp in 2002 (organised around a Rotary lunch table) over 50  Rotarians and family members have been out in the Bush including on a number of mid winter tramps. The core group of Neil Lyons, Peter Jackson, Malcolm Liddell and Ian Shore (now a Wanaka Club member) have continued tramping together normally a couple of times a year. Having done most of the Otago Southland tracks, late last year the four of them ventured into  Canterbury with the "Two Thumbs" section of the Te Araroa trail.
The route is from Mesopotamia Station on the Rangitata River across vast tussock country to Lake Tekapo on land recently retired from farming to the DOC estate.
The weather leading up to the tramp was fine, so the numerous river crossings were manageable and staying three nights in the quant ex musterers huts was fun. It was a challenging but enjoyable trip to a relatively remote part of the country.
