Pictured are President Cameron and Craig Radford after planting a tree donated by the club for Ellen Henderson. Ellen’s contribution to Rotary is fondly remembered by those of us who had the pleasure of knowing her. The Chirnside family also planted a tree donated by us for Wyn. All up 50 trees were planted and the event was well attended by members of the public, Keep Dunedin Beautiful, Task Force Green and the Mayor. It’s great for Rotary Dunedin to have had such a key role in this project over many years, the planting on this special section of the West Harbour trail is now completed and all the trees are growing!
Jamie spoke to our club on the topic rotary perceived through a younger persons eyes Jamie was very confident speaking to us as president of Rotaract and a Ryla exchange student at 17 going to Switzerland for 12 months was an amazing experience but also extremely challenging with homesickness living in a house where German Swiss and Spanish was spoken proved very frustrating at times as Jamie did not speak those languages but she learned to step out of her comfort zone and face new challenges she has developed extremely good leadership skills and some friends for life Jamie has also faced sexist and derogatory comments at Rotary which in this day and age of mixed groups is very sad Jamie has a masters inGeography which will enable her to engage with communities overseas Jamie you are a great person and we at Rotary wish you all the best for your future
