Meeting Attendance
Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.
Remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option. Please contact President Fiona for details of the link to use.

Meal Orders - Update
The café has noted that many of our  Rotary members and guests are now ordering on arrival.  This makes it difficult for them  to manage staffing levels and keep up the level of service for us, as well as their other guests.
As a club, we appreciate the use of the venue facilities free of charge.
To maintain this it is appreciated if you would please remember to pre-order your food and drink from the lunch menu ahead of time!

Email orders will be accepted now up until 11am  orders@thedishcafe.co.nz

The current $20 lunch menu (includes a drink) can be downloaded from here (updated 23 January 2023)

Stories
Last Weeks Speaker - Joanna Williams
Associate Professor Joanna Williams of the Anatomy Department, Otago University, spoke to us about Alzheimers disease and the exciting research which is being undertaken by local scientists.
Alzheimers is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. Currently there is no "cure", and Joanna stressed that the best form of treatment is to encourage a wide variety of activity which exercises the  different parts of the brain affected.
Joannas' talk attracted many questions from members - most of us have been affected to some degree by a loved-one or friend suffering from the condition.
Salvation Army - Red Shield Appeal
We have been asked, by the Salvation Army, to assist with this years "Red Shield Appeal"
Since 1883, The Salvation Army has fought poverty and social and spiritual distress in New Zealand.
They help more than 120,000 families and individuals in need each year—with budgeting advice, food and clothing assistance, life skills programmes and other comfort and support.
All funds raised from the Red Shield street appeal fund their frontline work in New Zealand.
Our club has informal links to the "Sallies" through individual members involvement. They have also  added to the atmosphere of our Christmas meeting for the past few years by providing a Brass Ensemble to accompany our Carol singing.
The Community Projects group has agreed to support this appeal and endeavour to provide collectors for one collection point for one day (tentatively Friday 12 May - to be confirmed) but we will need assistance from the wider club.
If you can help, please advise Bruce Collier brucec3210@gmail.com

The Chancellor is the formal head of the University and chairs a team of Council members in strategic decision making and oversight of the University’s operations.

The Chancellor’s most public role is conferring degrees and diplomas at University graduation ceremonies.

Other ceremonial and ambassadorial duties are undertaken by the Chancellor, ensuring the high standing of the University is maintained in the wider community, both in New Zealand and overseas.

David Neill, Ross Taylor & Ah-Lek have agreed to be team leaders again this year which makes for a very smooth operation.
