Last Weeks Meeting - Past Presidents
(photo Jackie)
Past Club Presidents took over our Thursday meeting last week. In the Chair was Sarah Warhurst. Craig Radford delivered a Sergeant’s Session on past Presidents and revealed a severe lack of knowledge amongst those attending. Pete Gouverneur ran the Joker Jackpot, now at $399 due to there being only two cards left and members buying tens of tickets in the fond hope of winning. Susan Schweigman picked the winning card to great applause.
Guest speaker was past President Grant Chirnside who Presented the Inaugural Rotary Awards to members. Amid general hilarity Paul Spain won Best Head of Hair, Lynne Guy the Vertically Challenged Cup (Rick Wellington was disqualified), Susan Schweigman added to her successes with the Best-dressed Award, Best Supporting Role was won by David Neill. Two categories found no clear winner: Most Performance-Enhanced Member and Most Entertaining Member Bringing Joy to the Club: there were too many candidates. It was generally agreed to be a success deserving repetition, and Cameron’s last meeting as President turned out to be his easiest.

Matariki Night Market, Tue 21st University of Otago
Fiona attended an inaugural Matariki night market event last Tuesday at the University of Otago. Here she is with Ruthie Holmes, a University of Otago student from the Solomon Islands.
We both enjoyed the friendly networking opportunity! We were able to learn about the Matariki star cluster and try out some creative activities such as painting with a natural pigment sourced from Karitane. We also watched a natural skin balm being made from locally sourced Kawakawa leaves. Fiona wasn’t up for trying the titi (muttonbird) kai though!
Hope you enjoyed your Matariki holiday!
Fiona
