 An initiative of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful organisation that’s been leading the way in educating Kiwis on how to Keep New Zealand Beautiful since 1967, the club Community Projects group decided to support the local committee by organising a clean-up of a section of the West Harbour shared path between the OUSA Aquatic Centre and the St Leonards Yacht Club (approx 6 km). Two teams of four were formed, one commencing at each end of the target and meeting two hours later at the mid-point (conveniently the Maia carpark). Our effort resulted in 20kg of rubbish being collected (verified by the Weigh Bridge at Waste Management). The "most unusual item" award went to Gordons "backscratcher"; and although not "litter" the discovery of a thriving Strawberry bed at the side of the track did make Bruce wonder who was responsible. As coordinator Brian reported "a very enjoyable result with good fellowship and a healthier Dunedin plus some good exercise for all..." |
