Off-Site Meeting: NZ Sports Hall of Fame
We have arranged a visit to the NZ Sports Hall of Fame Museum on Thursday 25th November at 5.30 pm (This will replace our lunchtime meeting that week).
The Hall of Fame was set-up in 1990 to recognise the achievments of some of our greatest sports people, and the museum has been located in the Dunedin Railway Station since 1999. The museum has been in the news recently when the City Council withdrew its support, throwing the future of the museum in Dunedin into doubt.
Last Weeks Speaker - Greg Wansink – Chatbus
& Dr Rachael Hart – Cancer Society
Chatbus and the Cancer Society were the two main beneficiaries of the funds raised through the Club’s Charity Auction.
Greg thanked the club for the grant and spoke on the work of the Chatbus.
At present they are providing 9 buses and 9 Councilors to 30 Schools (covering 6,500 pupils) throughout Otago and Southland.  They provide 1200 one on one sessions to self-referred students annually.
Greg said that the present student needs were not being met and they are looking for a future sustainable model going forward.
Rachael also thanked the club for the funding and spoke of the Society’s work on support for cancer patients, their help and advocacy work and cancer research.
Rachael spoke appreciatively on the small things carried out by the Society which meant so much in providing relief and support for cancer patients.

Each day 9 Kiwis find out they have Bowel cancer and 3 of them will die as a result.
‘The Gut Foundation’, while based in Canterbury, is very keen to expand its work into the lower part of the South Island. Rotary D9980 has decided to become involved in this programme, which has the potential to save lives of New Zealanders. This has the support of District Governor Nick.
It is envisioned that should our club wish to become involved then there would be a Gut Health awareness day held at local Foodstuffs premises (New World, Pak n Save, Four Square) talking with people, and raising awareness around their gut health. The Gut Foundation has formulated a self-help programme, allowing people to monitor their own gut health, and they have a chart for people to present to their GP
Our Clubs position will be determined by the Board, however President Cameron is keen to gauge members opinions before any decision is made. Please email him direct at camerono@logicgroup.co.nz

Growing Tip #3 When watering: Try to keep foliage and fruit dry unless it’s a sunny day. Dampness will make rot and other diseases more likely.

Last week, Gordon reported on behalf of the group tasked with coordinating our centennial celebrations in 2023. They have some initial ideas but would welcome further input from club members so if you have any suggestions, or if you would like to be involved in the group, please contact Gordon gordon.tucker@forsythbarr.co.nz

In last weeks sergeants session, Craig referred to legendary New York Yankees Baseball Player "Yogi" Berra, and some of his famous quotes. Here are some more of them:

You can observe a lot by just watching.
No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded.
Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.
You wouldn’t have won if we’d beaten you.
