Message from your Editor
I am on Leave-of-absence from club activities until the end of July while I recover from hip surgery.
During this time I hope to continue with the production of the Bulletin as usual (with the exception of Sunday 27 June which will be covered by Cameron) but will be even more reliant on members input.  Speaker hosts - don't forget to send me a short summary, idealy with a photo, after the meeting. Directors/Convenors/Event Organisers - please provide information for publication in plenty of time for inclusion in the normal Sunday mail-out/
Thank you for your cooperation - Bruce

Semi-Annual Dues:
Semi-annual dues are based on recorded membership as at 31st December & 30th June respectively, and the Club is levied by Rotary International based on these numbers.  This levy also includes a charge for your monthly magazine.  Any changes to your membership status needs to be processed by Rotary International before 31st December or 30th June.  To avoid the situation of the Club having to pay RI levies where a member retrospectively resigns, the Directors have agreed that Club semi-annuals will be invoiced in December for the January to July period and in June for the July to December period.  It is hoped that the earlier invoicing will encourage members who are reviewing their Rotary involvement to reach a decision prior to the cut-off date, to avoid the Club incurring the cost.

People of Action
Copies of this new book detailing the history of Rotary in New Zealand and the South Pacific are now available for purchase from President Gordon
(Special Price = $40.00 due to the club agreeing to purchase in bulk).

Did you know that in 1980 Police Sergeant Dick O'Connell, president of the Hokitika Rotary Club, initiated "Super Plod" which was a 2000 km, 16 stage run around the South Island by Rotary sponsored police teams  with a police truncheon as the relay baton(p. 161)? The run raised $120,000 (equiv $600,000 today) for the Paraplegic Association and the spinal unit at Burwood Hospital.
