In the penthouse for this week's meeting!
This coming Thursday, 1st July, we will be having our lunch meeting in the Penthouse, which is the top floor of the Petridish building.

Our special guest speaker is past member, Gillian Bremner, so this will be a great opportunity to hear of her exploits in Botswana.  This will be followed by a tour of the Petridish building at the end of the lunch, from the top to the bottom, for those who wish to take part.

The team at The Dish Cafe need to know numbers of those planning to attend prior, so that the space can be set up to cater to our requirements.  Therefore, if you are planning to attend, please pre-order by midday Wednesday 30th June to orders@thedishcafe.co.nz.  All of the food and drinks will be brought up to the Penthouse, so you won't need to carry anything yourself.

If you have trouble with stairs, we can arrange the use of the back elevator, but we do need to know in advance so we can those who require it with instructions.  Please contact Gordon if you will have a need to use the lift, by midday Wednesday 30th June also.
Changeover Night 2021
On Thursday we gave thanks to President Gordon for his efforts over the year and welcomed Cameron Olsen as our President. Thanks to Ron for organising the brilliant Haggis ceremony, Gordon's daughter Stasa for an impressive dance performance, the very capable Master of Ceremonies Brian Daniels,  and the Management team led by Lynne for organising the festivities. Some photos from the night can be viewed here.
Meeting Attendance
Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.

Message from your Editor
I am on Leave-of-absence from club activities until the end of July while I recover from hip surgery.
During this time I hope to continue with the production of the Bulletin as usual (with the exception of Sunday 27 June which will be covered by Cameron) but will be even more reliant on members input.  Speaker hosts - don't forget to send me a short summary, idealy with a photo, after the meeting. Directors/Convenors/Event Organisers - please provide information for publication in plenty of time for inclusion in the normal Sunday mail-out/
Thank you for your cooperation - Bruce

Semi-Annual Dues:
Semi-annual dues are based on recorded membership as at 31st December & 30th June respectively, and the Club is levied by Rotary International based on these numbers.  This levy also includes a charge for your monthly magazine.  Any changes to your membership status needs to be processed by Rotary International before 31st December or 30th June.  To avoid the situation of the Club having to pay RI levies where a member retrospectively resigns, the Directors have agreed that Club semi-annuals will be invoiced in December for the January to July period and in June for the July to December period.  It is hoped that the earlier invoicing will encourage members who are reviewing their Rotary involvement to reach a decision prior to the cut-off date, to avoid the Club incurring the cost.

(Special Price = $40.00 due to the club agreeing to purchase in bulk).

Did you know that in 1980 Police Sergeant Dick O'Connell, president of the Hokitika Rotary Club, initiated "Super Plod" which was a 2000 km, 16 stage run around the South Island by Rotary sponsored police teams  with a police truncheon as the relay baton(p. 161)? The run raised $120,000 (equiv $600,000 today) for the Paraplegic Association and the spinal unit at Burwood Hospital.
