Jamie MacKenzie and George Sabonadiere spoke about their experience at Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) that was held in Queenstown in late January. There were over 40 like minded individuals from diverse backgrounds who were challenged in many ways over the 5 days. There were many activities that gave them opportunities to lead a team, whether that was erecting a shelter box tent , planting native trees or designing a orienteering course. There were inspiring speakers that covered many topics from mindset, goalsetting and real life examples of resilience.
A week that they will not forget and many connections were made.
The meeting was also a "Rotaract Takeover" with Jamie and Romain officiating and including a run-down on the past years achievements for their Rotaract club (the only one in the South Island) and a Sergeants session based on student life!! Fantastic job!!.
Along with other local Rotary Clubs we collected a total of around 60 "banana boxes" of non perishable food and household items last Wednesday.

Bruce joined the club in February 2007 and has served on the Youth (Convenor), Admin, Public Relations, Membership and International committees and is currently a member of the Club Management Group/Committee. He was Bulletin Editor in 2009-2011 and resumed this role in 2020.
When he joined the club Bruce was manager of the Mayfair Theatre, but in a past life his background was Organic Chemistry and Biotechnology (figure that out if you can). He is now retired and volunteers with the High Street Cable Car project.
