Today was a day when our four speakers were all offering their thanks to the Club for sponsorship.
Our first speakers were Hanna Smith and Hanna Konings.

Both Hannas have completed degrees at Otago University and are now proceeding to Masters qualifications. Both attended the annual week long Rotary Youth Leadership Camp in Queenstown last month.
Clearly the camp was very successful and both young ladies spoke of being taken out of their comfort zones but feeling so much more confident going forward as a result of the camp.
We were told that individual speakers took workshops on the following subjects : leadership, personality styles, effective communication, mental health in the workplace, conflict management, and being your authentic self.
As well as the workshops the participants had a task of building a contemplation garden with a park bench and associated landscaping. This was done with a $250 contribution for Mitre10 and over a five hour period. The photos showing the results were impressive.
Our second speakers were Ethan Maw from Otago Boys High and Oscar Kennedy from Logan Park.

These young men attended the two week science and technology learning experience in Auckland.
With both about to complete year 13 and to attend University next year they both spoke of the interesting variety of modules and especially discovering the possible link from their core chemistry and geology, with other subjects and options for the future.
The fact that in the UK alone some 18 million single use vape batteries end up in landfills each day was something for which there are future scientific challenges and the most interesting scientific fact that came from the workshops, was that the hottest part of a microwave is not the centre, but around the edges.
All four young speakers were very grateful to the Club for sponsoring them, and we should be proud of the enthusiasm and calibre of these young people.
