Lunch arrangements:
Tea and coffee available and it's a BYO lunch. Food outlets nearby range from Sushi to Subway, Kebabs to Night & Day, and local cafes like Bru located on Moray Place. Alternatively, just make yourself a cuppa!
Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers and to catch up with our Club activities.
Remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option.
OUR EVENING SOCIAL GATHERING 23 JULY
In lieu of last week's lunchtime meeting we gathered at the Ironic Cafe and Bar from 5pm. The venue offered warm hospitality and good ambience for our quite large group. We all enjoyed the chance to chat and catch up in the relaxed setting.

It's Rotary Day in Borderville and attendance is way up. But the eagerly awaited district governor is late. Shot with his own gun in his chain-locked motel room, it is arguably a suicide. The club members, however, deduce murder. And feisty octogenarian widow Harriet Bushrow is dispatched on a discreet visit to the victim's North Carolina hometown. There she learns--from informants that include a sour ex-wife, a gossipy born-again masseuse, and Harriet's own best friend from her school days--that this good old Rotarian boy was not a model citizen.

Children's play spaces at the new Dunedin Hospital Outpatient Building, furnishing the play areas, and funding a virtual relaity equipement that helps children prepare for MRI scans, reducing fear and teh need for sedation. n support the new Dunedin Hospital
& Rotary Park Upgrade
There is a call out for members to assist our event planning committees with table sales, raffle and auction prizes, and selling sponsorship packages.
Peter Jackson reports work is continuing at Rotary Park with some recent cutting up of old pine logs and weed eating. A new area for planting located between the path and the dog park has been selected for our next planting. Once weed spraying has been completed there will be a working bee to create holes for 135 plants and spread mulch.
We are also planning a working bee for the actual planting in conjunction with a group of Year 13 Kaikorai Valley College Students. This will be on a Wed afternoon, either 12 August or 2nd September. The actual date and time are to be confirmed.

In two years time a rare total solar eclipse will be viewable from Dunedin.
Anton Ojala is an Otago graduate who has worked with Foreign Affairs and Trade in New Zealand and in a number of overseas postings. He relocated to Dunedin earlier this year to work with the Electoral Commission. Anton will speak to us on ‘The Ins and Outs of the General Election’. Very timely with just 104 days until election day on 7 November!

Instructions for setting up and tidying the room
The duty team are responsible for setting up the room which involves placement of the tables & chairs (in sets of six chairs per table, tables placed lengthwise down each side of the room), please ensure that you arrive in time to assist with this. We also have to put the tables and chairs back after the meeting, please ask members to help the duty team if they can. Place used cups and spoons in the white bin on the trolley to take to the dishwasher. Duty officers are asked to load the dishwasher but not to turn it on.

Did you know, today, 26 July is World Mangrove Day. Rotary projects in Singapore, Fiji, Australia and India are amongst the important work going on to restore mangrove habitats in their regions - creating lasting impact.

Dunedin Harbour's next meeting is on Tue 28th July where Luan Peterle will be the evening's speaker. The club recently supported Luan, a Kings High School pupil, to attend the prestigious International Biology Olympiad in Lithuania. Luan returned with a Bronze medal!
