Meeting Attendance
Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.
Remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option. Please contact President Katie for details of the link to use.

Meal Orders @ the dish cafe
The café has noted that many of our Rotary members and guests are now ordering on arrival.  This makes it difficult for them  to manage staffing levels and keep up the level of service for us, as well as their other guests.
As a club, we appreciate the use of the venue facilities free of charge. To maintain this it is appreciated if you would please remember to pre-order your food and drink from the menu ahead of time!
Email your order to orders@thedishcafe.co.nz by 11am

NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

There will be Special General Meeting of the club, at club lunch meeting on 4th April 2024. The meeting is to consider a possible change to the Deeds of the five trusts that would provide more flexibility and consistency around audit and review.
The resolution is:
That the club agrees that the deeds of the five trusts be amended by deleting related clauses, if any, and replacing them with the following
“Each year the Trustees must review the annual accounts for the Trust and may decide, in their absolute discretion, whether the financial statements should be audited or reviewed by:
A qualified auditor in accordance with the applicable auditing and assurance standards; or some other suitably qualified and experienced person

Current Rotary Dunedin volunteering opportunities

Otago Rally - We have been asked to marshal at the Anzac Ave super special again on Sat 13th April from 1.30pm. We will need volunteers over the afternoon just to make sure the public are in the right areas & collect their money. Please contact Peter Jackson peter@propertyprofessionals.co.nz to volunteer for this important fundraiser for the club before 27 Mar.
Irishman Chris Meek is the guest rally driver this year, this is a video of one of his 'spectacular' accidents! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urqeGsWzfcA

Cheese Rolls 2024 - Planning is underway to make dozens and dozens of cheese rolls to order.
The more we sell, the more we make as a fundraiser for club projects.
It's a fun and not too onerous team task to make the products. But we need your help to do it, we can only make as many cheese rolls as we have volunteers to make them!
Please schedule in your time to work for a 4 hour shift, or whatever time frame fits your schedule, on Fri afternoon May 17th, or the morning or afternoon Saturday May 18th.  Friends and family joining in to help are great help. We'll be setting up a roster at club lunch this week.
Stories
Last Week's Speaker
Speaker Kelly Macknight, Founder of be Heard! (http://beheard.org.nz)
Kelly Macknight attended St Hilda’s. She spent thirteen years as the CHRO of a global technology company before founding a not-for-profit organisation, “be heard”, designed to offer free one-to-one counselling at selected primary and intermediate schools across Dunedin.
Kelly was aware of the challenges facing previous providers and set about organising a dedicated group to guide the self-funding emerging service. The service receives no government funding and relies on grants and donations.
The service began in 2023 serving four local schools.  The single counsellor supported eighty-two students. The service deals with low to moderate issues and if there are more serious things going on it refers them to other agencies.
The service found that there were many children who were very anxious starting school post Covid — particularly those who did not get a proper start to their school year because of lockdown. Kelly said that they were sort of transitioning and they may have missed some of the last primary school activities because there were no discos and things like that.
This year, with a second counsellor, the service is helping seven schools and is supporting forty-two so far.

President Katie's weekly meeting 'parting thought'

Last week it was from Professor Don Hine, Head of the University of Canterbury’s School of Psychology, Speech and Hearing.

We need to build a society in which we provide strong social foundations that enable young people to flourish, without exceeding the Earth’s ecological boundaries.
