Derek has been at Cargills for fourteen years and related the impact that Covid 19 had on their staff ,which although they lost approx 8 at the time ,they are again now building and performing at a level better than they were pre Covid. The core business of pallet construction ,boxes for food items, food packing has enabled the organisation to become debt free which in itself can be considered a milestone achievment. Derek describes the staff culture within Cargills as social, offering them training, events such as special Olympics and a Graduation ceremony which, are very inspiring for them ,and critical to their ongoing training while learning skills not available elsewhere. Dereks direction in life is changing in a week when he leaves Cargills and moves to Ranfurly where he has purchased the Manitoto Hardware and Garden store. He comments challenging but exciting times ahead.
