Meeting Attendance
Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.
Remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option. Please contact President Fiona for details of the link to use.

Meal Orders - Update
The café has noted that many of our  Rotary members and guests are now ordering on arrival.  This makes it difficult for them  to manage staffing levels and keep up the level of service for us, as well as their other guests.
As a club, we appreciate the use of the venue facilities free of charge.
To maintain this it is appreciated if you would please remember to pre-order your food and drink from the lunch menu ahead of time!

Email orders will be accepted now up until 11am  orders@thedishcafe.co.nz

The current $20 lunch menu (includes a drink) can be downloaded from here (updated 23 January 2023)

Student Service Project  February 17th
We have up to 16 volunteers from the Otago Medical School Students Association keen to engage with Rotary Dunedin.
Arrangements have been made with the project manager for Dunedin Harbour, for this group to help out by spreading mulch at the Hospice and then when that job is done, travel to Kaikorai Valley to a site where we can pick up pine cones, with a plan to sell them later as a fundraiser. This will take place on the afternoon of Friday. 17th Feb.
We need 3-4 club members  willing to  help supervise the students on the day, and offer transport from North Dunedin to Kaikorai Valley and back.
We also need members willing to lend out their shovels/spades for the volunteers to spread the mulch and up to four wheel barrows.
Please contact President Fiona at fiona.robin@xtra.co.nz or 0274821103 if you are able to help!
Last Weeks Speaker - Craig Bunt
Dr Craig Bunt is the Inaugural Professor of Agricultural Innovation, University of Otago.
Support for the Agricultural sector has been a mandate of the University for most of its history but it is only in the last few years that a degree majoring in Agricultural Innovation has been offered. The course requires a high level of engagement with industry, and the list of local companies and their projects probably suprised most of us. Facial recognition of sheep? Really?
Craig also discussed the hemp industry, heralded by National Geographics in 1937 as having tremendous potential - and scuppered by USA lawmakers a year later. It is currently grown locally on a trial basis and hemp fibre, meal and oil is used in a variety of products (a tasting was provided by Fiona for those wishing to partake). Medicinal Cannabis (a different plant species from Industrial Hemp) is also being grown on a trial basis. Apparently a Field Trip to the facility was popular with Students and Staff!
Craigs talk proved once again that there is some fascinating work being done at our local University which the general public are often unaware of.
District Conference - Oamaru, 24-26 March
Are you going to conference?  It is an opportunity to meet with fellow Rotarians from all around the South Island, be inspired by a variety of speakers, share successful ideas and projects and generally network with like-minded people.
In keeping with Oamaru’s reputation as the “Steampunk” capital of New Zealand, the theme for Saturday night’s function is “Steaming in Oamaru”.
More Information at https://www.rotary9999conference.org.nz/programme and talk to Lynne Guy about accommodation.
