The organizers of the Dunedin Art Show would like to gift our club 20 free double opening night tickets to share with our members in recognition of the good charitable work we do in the city. “The opening night kicks off on the 19th November this year at 7.30pm and is a great night out for a group, with canapes, wine and live music, to enjoy along with thousands of original artworks for sale to view. The tickets are normally $25 each but for you there will be no charge”.

The Board has approved the following nominating committee to choose our President in 2023-24 Brian Daniels (chair), Carole Adair, Bruce Cowan, John Drummond, Peter Gouverneur, Fiona Nyhof, Cameron Olsen, Gordon Tucker and Jackie St John. The nominating committee plans to meet on November 12th. Any member is welcome to confidentially contact any member of the committee to put forward a name for consideration by the nominating committee.
The RoAK baking treats were presented to the Campus Watch team at the University of Otago last Monday morning. The Campus Watch team were delighted to be recognised in this way and were very appreciative of it. This project was great also for fellowship between our team and the Rotaractors.
There was excitement at the West Harbour Trail BBQ mural last Thursday morning when the 14 children from Ravensbourne school arrived to paint. They added life and colour to the work with their own images depicting native birds and gulls, plants, dolphins and even giant snails. Everyone’s going to enjoy this mural for a long time to come. We’ll post more photos to show the group once we get all the names and permissions we need to publish.
Last week’s speaker was Clare Curran reflecting on her experiences as a Member of Parliament. Coming from a public service family – her father served in the Justice Department and became Registrar of the Dunedin High Court, Clare made a commitment to serve the community. Clare was an electorate MP for Dunedin South for four terms (12 years). Like all new MP’s she started learning the rules, procedures, and rituals of the House of Representatives. As a Constituent MP she enjoyed the dual roles. Firstly as a debater in the Chamber and serving on various select committees. Secondly she particularly enjoyed the role of advocating for her constituents providing advice and assistance. Clare spoke of her advocacy on the big issues for Dunedin – Hillside Workshops, Dunedin Hospital and South Dunedin following the serious flooding. Now retired from Parliament, Clare has completed a paper in English at Otago University (Scottish Crime Fiction) and is a Board Member of the Dunedin Night Shelter and Life Matters Trust

Student request for private Dunedin board 2021
With the further COVID 19 lockdown now in place in Europe, Balclutha clubs Rotary Exchange student, Mackenzie Baines, is returning from France as soon as she is able.
For 2021, Mackenzie will be a Year 13 student at a High School in Dunedin and would like a private board place there.

Our speaker this week is Liam Farley of AD Instruments. During the Covid-19 lockdown, AD Instruments provided remote learning software to many universities world wide and arranged this facility in a very short time. An interesting insight into how this remarkable achievement was developed and rolled out.
