Stories
Last weeks speaker - Kevin Seales
Kevin, the (volunteer) Regional Manager for Camp Quality South provided an insight into the work of his organisation which caters for children, 5 to 16 years of age, who have been diagnosed with cancer; their siblings; and families. While their main focus is on the annual summer camp for between 30-40 children, they also organise a post-camp "reunion", provide training for their volunteers, and fund-raise. Kevin hopes that in the future their activity can expand to a winter camp.
Kevins presentation was well received and attracted a lot of questions from members.
Rotaract Summer Bingo Progress
T&C met in Mosgiel last week. Four members car-pooled, saving 3 independent trips. Another item ticked off!

Duty Roster Coordinator
To allow Cameron to prepare for his forthcoming role as President we require a volunteer to take over the task of maintaining the Duty Roster for club meetings. In the past a spreadsheet has been used but this is not essential (pen & paper would work just as well!). Main duties are to extend the roster each month; and email reminders to the duty team each week.
Anyone willing to consider this position please contact Cameron to discuss.

This week speakers from our associated High Schools will compete in the "4 Way Test Speech Contest.

Rotarys "4-Way Test" was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago based Club Aluminium Company, which was facing bankruptcy. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy.

The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and to this day is considered to be a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.

While the “4-Way Test” is the basis of the speeches, judges also consider such things as clarity and logic, speech construction, language, visual and vocal impact, empathy with the audience and timing (5-6 minutes).
