During the launch of his book "Helping Hands" a history of the last 100 years of Rotary in Dunedin, Craig threw out some "teasers" - the answers to which can be found by purchasing and reading the book!!
Here are a couple:
*Who does a good line in bad jokes?
*Who do I reveal made an anonymous gift?
It is a rollicking good read that you won’t want to miss, you can purchase for $35 per copy.
John began his fascinating (and entertaining) talk by pointing out that New Zealand did not exist as a British colony during the reigns of Kings Charles 1 & 2, and therefore our new monarch should perhaps properly be designated King Charles 1 of New Zealand! He then led us through some of the highlights and low lights of the earlier Kings Charles such as the fact that Charles 2 fathered 14 children from 7 known mistresses - all illegitimate and therefore ineligible to inherit the throne (he was succeeded by his brother James). Interspersed throughout his talk, John penned a series of 15 "memos" to the new King containing helpful suggestions based on lessons learned.
I can now confirm that we will be collecting on FRIDAY 12 MAY at CENTRE CITY NEW WORLD from 10.00 AM
We currently have sufficient volunteers to cover until 5.00 pm (1 person per 1 hour shift). Additional volunteers are still welcome and would allow us to extend our duty a bit, or double up collectors during likely busy times.
For those of you using the "Mark 1" version please note that the club bank account number (for payment) is BNZ 02-0912-0026502-00 using Ref. ROLLS
More From the Centennial
The organising committee did a great job! Thank you Lynne, Bruce, John, Sarah, Carole and Fiona
Jonathan produced a "poodle". Jonathan is an award winning magician - literally. At a convention in Auckland, attended by 80 magicians from across New Zealand, Jonathan won the highest award - the Magicians Challenge Trophy for the best act in the evening cabaret show, the award for best comedy magic performance and most entertaining performance overall. That meant he won half of the six awards on offer at the event!
Jonathan has always been very generous with his time and talent for Rotary events, and we were very fortunate (and grateful) to have him as MC at our Centennial Dinner.
And he managed to direct "Happy Birthday" from the human chime
Everyone was smiling
And medals were worn

Dine Like Royalty
Traditionally in the UK when a monarch is crowned, there's a special dish. For King Charles III it's a simple vegetarian quiche featuring spinach, broad beans and tarragon!
Should you wish to try it yourself, the recipe is here: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/coronation-quiche ( If you can't find tarragon or prefer another flavour, you can swap in other soft herbs like basil or parsley. You can use peas instead of broad beans if that's what you have.)
Circus Quirkus - May 15
Volunteers are required for both performances - to collect tickets at the door and generally wave the Rotary flag!!
