Recently the Town and Country Committee awarded seven scholarships from the Rotary Club of Dunedin Rural Education Trust. According to Gordon Parry in his book "The First 75 Years", an earlier initiative of the T&C Committee was a project (raising $15,000 through an auction) to assist a young person to become involved in a farming career. The first recipient was Bill Watt who came from a family of six living on a small sheep farm in Kakapuaka. The award enabled him to purchase a dog, saddle and kit so he could take up a position on a farm in West Otago! |
