Jack was born in Dunedin and educated at Wakari School, Balmacewen Intermediate, Otago Boys High School, Otago University and Otago Polytechnic (his university study was a B.A. in PPE- Philosophy, Politics and Economics under Prof Jim Flynn; and his polytechnic study in Journalism). He was a journalist with Allied Press Ltd for 12 years many of which were spent in South Otago (and the Clutha Leader).
Jack is currently a Personal Development Facilitator at Richard Joseph and Associates utilising skills gained both formally and informally (including RYLA/Rotary).
Jacks first exposure to Rotary was when a work colleague suggested that he attend a RYLA programme. Although somewhat indifferent he agreed - and found the experience, with its wide mix of cultures, political leanings and ideologies "life changing" to the extent that he has agreed to return as a facilitator next year.
Jack told us that joining groups (such as Rotary) is not common amongst his generation. It is very easy to become “disconnected “ from society and overly reliant on technology although this is not quite so bad in smaller towns where everyone knows everyone else.
Joining Rotary could provide a connection with the community.
Jack is very happy to be part of Rotary.
