Professor Geddis gave us a fascinating description of the development of New Zealands new Terrorism laws commencing with the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 adopted in response to 9/11 (and subsequently ruled unfit for purpose).The Urewera raids (Operation 8), the Christchurch Mosque shootings and the LynnMall stabbings were cited as influencing the recent amendment to the Act which provides an updated definition of a “terrorist act” and criminalises preparation or planning for a terrorist act.
