John began his fascinating (and entertaining) talk by pointing out that New Zealand did not exist as a British colony during the reigns of Kings Charles 1 & 2, and therefore our new monarch should perhaps properly be designated King Charles 1 of New Zealand!He then led us through some of the highlights and low lights of the earlier Kings Charles such as the fact that Charles 2 fathered 14 children from 7 known mistresses - all illegitimate and therefore ineligible to inherit the throne (he was succeeded by his brother James).
Interspersed throughout his talk, John penned a series of 15 "memos" to the new King containing helpful suggestions based on lessons learned.
