Following the presentation of a Paul Harris Award to Michael Macknight, co-founder and director of ADInstruments our guest speaker Liam Farley, also from ADInstruments, provided us with an insight into the functionality of one of the on-line learning resources that the company offers.Liam, who is a Customer Success Manager with ADI, told us a little of his background. He was a health sciences student at Otago University, completing a Master of Physiology under the supervision of club member Ruth Empson. Liam was also a teaching fellow in the Physiology Department at the University of Otago, a position established with the assistance of the founders of ADI. This is where he gained his first exposure to the company’s technologies.
With ADInstruments being an international company with clients spread around the world, Liam traveled widely until the Covid lockdown restrictions. With their focus on on-line education, ADI recognised that there would be a need for more people to access on-line educational resources to continue their studies or training. ADI responded by making their cloud-based learning platforms freely available to anyone in the world.
Liam gave us a demonstration of Lt, which is an online learning platform with ready-to-use content for life sciences, nursing and medicine. Essentially Lt can be accessed on any device at any time, even in a Rotary meeting as Liam’s demonstration proved. Liam showed how students can actually work with their own physiological or biological signals, for example their ECG and heart rate, by using ADI developed hardware together with the Lt training course software. The Lt learning platform is being used by over 150,000 students in more than 350 universities around the world.
Liam’s presentation provided us with captivating look at an advanced educational product that has been developed locally and made available globally. ADInstruments, who have grown to employ 200 people all around the world, are an outstanding example of a world leading community minded technology developer and provider that has grown from small beginnings here in Dunedin.
