Stories
Last Weeks Speaker - David Murray
Because of the Level 4 Lockdown, David very kindly agreed to speak to our clubs "Zoom" meeting (attended by 19 participants). He began by describing what an "archive" is, and what he as an "archivist" does.
David then gave a  fascinating presentation on three archives in the Hocken –
the 1st about Henry Pickerill  & his wife Cecily who were pioneers in plastic surgery, this included stories about Henry’s childhood, how they met when both were doctors at University of Otago https://teara.govt.nz/en/biographies/3p25/pickerill-henry-percy
the 2nd archive was about Lance Richdale who started out with a background in teacher of agricultural studies but ended up as one of NZ’s foremost Ornithologists who was instrumental in setting up the sanctuary for Albatross on the Otago Peninsula. The archive provides details of his early life including his sporting excellence being captain of both the 1st 11 & 1st 15 at school.  https://predatorfreenz.org/lance-richdale-taiaroa-head-albatrosses/
The 3rd archive was about an amusing letter written to the General Manager of Union Steam Ship Co complaining about a lost boot during an overnight crossing of the ferry from Wellington to Lyttelton.– you will need to go to the Hocken to read it !!
Third Bike Repair Station installed
A third Bike Repair Station has been installed as part of the Town and Country Group project. The latest site is at Vauxhall (near the Harbour Golf facility).

Social Breakfast
The Town & Country Group are organising a Social Breakfast on Tuesday 14 September at Ironic Café at 8am. If you are interested let Peter Gouverneur know.
Centennial Project Committee
April 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of Rotary Dunedin and the Directors wish to form a small "sub-committee" to plan and coordinate the celebrations! If you would like to be on this team please advise Past-President Gordon.

Never let a chance go by!!
Hayley Hobson made a lifestyle choice and with her husband and two children moved from Sydney to Wanaka where she established her own accountancy firm.
As part of its "Home for Healthier Business" initiative, the Economic Development Unit of the Queenstown Lakes District Council featured Hayley and her business as a Case Study, including a short video which can be viewed on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEDdZnkLa4M&t=1s
During the interview, Hayley mentions that she had joined Rotary and gives a good plug for the Community Service which they do!!
(Thanks to Peter Jackson for drawing our attention to this)

At a loose end during lockdown?
How many words can you make from the letters
R-O-T-A-R-Y
I have it on good authority that there are 39 possible words although one or two I've never heard of!!
