Meeting Attendance
Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.
Remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option. Please contact President Fiona for details of the link to use.

Meal Orders - Update
The café has noted that many of our  Rotary members and guests are now ordering on arrival.  This makes it difficult for them  to manage staffing levels and keep up the level of service for us, as well as their other guests.
As a club, we appreciate the use of the venue facilities free of charge.
To maintain this it is appreciated if you would please remember to pre-order your food and drink from the lunch menu ahead of time!

Email orders will be accepted now up until 11am  orders@thedishcafe.co.nz

The current $20 lunch menu (includes a drink) can be downloaded from here (updated 23 January 2023)

Stories
Last Weeks Speaker -  Andrew Tiffany
From Milton to Shanghai and back to Dunedin.
For the past 20 years Andrew Tiffany has been making his way across Asia teaching the teachers and coincidentally following the various pandemics.
He started in Tai Pei at the age of 30 going from leading at summer camp, to teacher training and then into HR, until one day a phone call was to change the trajectory of his career. He began working for The Walt Disney Company in Shanghai, although his work took him all over China. His role was to train Chinese people to work at Disney, a company which has a very specific way of training its employees. He immensely enjoyed his time with the organisation and found their values aligned with his own and aren’t that far removed from Rotary’s.
Andrew and his wife returned to New Zealand to educate their children and he now works with National Geographic remotely from his home in Mornington.
Thank you Andrew for  coming to speak to our club, it was an interesting journey through your life.
Rotary International
A visitor to the club last week was Anna Karrel   who was one of our Rotary Youth Exchange students from Denmark five years ago. She's shown here with Carole Adair who was her RYE mentor . Anna  was revisiting the club as part of a return visit to NZ with her host dad Greg Angell. It was great to see her again!
On Safari
Report received Saturday p.m.!!
The T&C safari to Oamaru is going really well. There are 18of us on tour in Oamaru. We enjoyed visiting Totara Park Estate yesterday , Parkside Whitestone Quarry and Limeworks Sat morning and Riverstone Kitchen and Dots  castle . We are just on our way to visit Rod Tempero at Tempero Motor Body works and looking forward to viewing Clark’s Historic Flour Mill on Sunday. Here’s a photo of the group at the quarry this morning!
Time for a new challenge
Pete Gouverneur has been appointed as Assistant District Governor (replacing Ah-Lek Tay) as from 1 July 2023.
What does an AG do?
Supports the incoming DG Phil Gully
Liases closely with Dunedin, Dunedin South, Dunedin Central, Dunedin Harbour, St Kilda Sunrise, Rotaract and E-Club of WASH
Encourages combined club projects
Brings the club Presidents together to share ideas and learn from each other
Visits the Dunedin clubs and share their successes with other club Presidents
Promotes ways the district Leadership team can support clubs
And of course encourages membership because if your club is not growing then we really need to look at ways to fix this.
Peter offers this quote to reflect on: "Every challenge you face today makes you stronger tomorrow. The challenge of life is intended to make you better, not bitter." (Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart)
