Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.
Remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option. Please contact President Fiona for details of the link to use.
Meal Orders - Update
The café has noted that many of our Rotary members and guests are now ordering on arrival. This makes it difficult for them to manage staffing levels and keep up the level of service for us, as well as their other guests.
As a club, we appreciate the use of the venue facilities free of charge.
To maintain this it is appreciated if you would please remember to pre-order your food and drink from the lunch menu ahead of time!
A reminder that CoVid is still in the community - our guest speaker tested positive on Thursday morning and wasn't able to be at the meeting.
Instead six of our own members each gave short presentations based on their own interests and recent activities. Thanks to Peter Jackson (Motor Sport and an appeal for marshalls for the Otago Rally next month), Ron Mackintosh (Glasgow and Edinburgh, and their old and interesting pubs, Buxton’s Roman Baths in Derby and Hadrian’s Wall) ), Don McEwan (Totara Estate), Malcolm Liddell (Parkside Quarry), Neil Lyons (Rod Tempero Motors) and Lynne Guy ( Dots Castle and Riverstone Kitchen). The latter four were associated with the recent "Safari" by the Town & Country Committee. and were highly recommended to anybody with time to spare in Oamaru.
It also showed just what a wealth of knowledge exists within the club and our members.
Q. Which rock band was founded by Trent Reznor in 1988?

Our Thursday lunch meetings are renowned for their interesting and informative speakers, but at the heart of our club is great fellowship.
Last weeks meeting may have been missing a guest speaker due to illness, and while attendance numbers were lower than usual, it was a meeting rich in fellowship. Our own talented members stepped up to tell us stories of recent interesting places they’d been and recount scary stories like swimming with a Tiger Snake, burning up your brake fluid in a car rally or ending up at the End of the World pub where you have to pay a toll to get to ‘the other side’ and stay there forever if you can’t pay the toll to get back! Our Rotary experience is of course much more than the weekly lunch meeting. Much is being done behind the scenes by our members to initiate the Rotary Park upgrade as our Club centennial project, we have raised over $14,000 to pay for Orokonui Ecosanctuary’s special new threatened bird translocation aviary, and a new project that our younger members and friends are working towards, is to build a garden, orchard and outdoor space at the recently relocated Sarah Cohen school.
There’s an inter club firewood project getting underway and we’ll be out in the community being of service to help eradicate wasps in the town belt Sun 5th and 11th March, as well as raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation on Sat 11th! There’s also a lot going on behind the scenes to prepare for the club’s 100th anniversary in April. All this and the regular meals on wheels service which never goes unforgotten or unacknowledged. I hope you can find a place amongst all this vibrant Rotary activity to join in! And so that you don’t miss out on the fellowship, updates, interesting speakers and stories, please get yourself along to our club lunch meeting, in person or on Zoom, especially if you haven’t been able to make it for a while. We’d love to see you all back at lunch , or at a volunteering occasion very soon! Cheers Fiona
